When I mention that I am a diving instructor I hear many different questions from people who know nothing about diving. That’s why I made this article, to answer some of them. So let’s check them:
What do I need to start diving?
To dive you need 4 things:
A towel, a swimsuit, a nice bright smile and about 3 hours from your life. So simple! So grab your phone, make an appointment and you can thank me later for finally finding what was missing from your life! Read in full detail how you can start with SCUBA Diving!
Will I dive from the first time?
Of course. After we complete a theory briefing that lasts about 40 minutes we are going for a DIVE!
I’m afraid my oxygen will run out …
There is no way your oxygen will run out because the air we have in our tank is more than enough for our dive. Also, a piece of equipment we will be using allows us to check on how much air we have left. Oh! And one more thing … our tank does not contain 100% oxygen, but it contains the same air you are breathing right now!
How deep we are going?
The maximum depth we will go is 6 meters. “Only that deep ???” some ask me, and the answer is that this unprecedented and very fun feeling of underwater breathing with the combination of aquatic life, neutral buoyancy and underwater landscape will not give you any time to think about the depth you have reached and you will not have a care in the world!
I am afraid of getting confused and inhale water through the nose…
This cannot happen for the simple reason you will be wearing a diving mask that covers your nose throughout your dive. It is also a matter of time before you gain good control of your airway.
What do I do if water gets into my mask?
Before we start our dive we do some exercises in shallow water with the surface just above our head, as soon as you feel ready and familiar with the environment and equipment we will be able to continue. One of these exercises is to learn how to clean our mask underwater.
When I dive my ears hurt, will I be able to dive?
The reason this happens has to do with the physics of diving. We learn from our very first dive how to equalize our ears with a very simple and easy technique so that we can dive without any problems at all, so do not worry!
Can I dive in the winter? Isn’t the water very cold?
Usually when you see divers in movies or on the beach you will notice that they are wearing a black suit. These are neoprene suits, a black and spongy material that not only has the property of making us look slimmer but also has the tremendous ability to provide thermal protection! After all, there are many reasons to dive in the winter too!
How much does a dive cost? It must be very expensive!
The fact that we divers look like black painted astronauts does not mean that the cost is as much as a space mission. Taking a peek at certification course page you can check the prices in detail and you will even be surprised on how affordable the DSD (discover scuba diving) is, as you will gain an unforgettable experience that you will remember for a lifetime.
Will I be able to dive alone or with a friend after the DSD (discover scuba diving)?
To dive alone or with a friend without the presence of a professional diver you must complete the first certification level! Learn how here: PADI Open Water Diver course
I’m not good with extreme sports, I will not succeed …
Diving is not an extreme activity but just the opposite! In fact, instructors often tell students to dive or do their exercises more slowly and calmly! If you want a hobby to relax, diving then is what you MUST try!
That’s all folks. In closing I want to say that I hope to see you soon in our family because diving is really a mental treatment in this madness we experience, in these difficult times we live in and in our chaotic daily life. When your head goes off the surface so all the worries that may bother you will go away as well. Guaranteed!
