What is the PADI Divemaster course? It is your way to get the first professional level in diving so you can upgrade your status from a recreational diver to a diving professional by acquiring PADI membership.
A PADI Divemaster is authorized to perform a wide range of activities ranging from escorting certified or trained divers, assisting an Instructor and conducting the course and certification of PADI Skin Divers.
As a certified Discover Scuba Diving Leader you can carry out this program independently in a pool or in confined open water environment.
How can I become a Divemaster? Here I will tell you about my own experience as I lived it on Diveness.
I was already a Rescue Diver with several dives in my logbook, but as a diver I wanted to develop my self.
So choosing the Divemaster course was an obvious decision for me.
Through the course you have the opportunity to get in touch with certified or non-certified divers. This is a great advantage as you will experience, what it means to be a diving professional in realistic conditions. You will become an active member of the Dive Center. You will sweep every bit of it from top to bottom! You will welcome the divers who come in a warm way and make them feel “at home”!
During the pre dive preparation procedure you will assist them with their gear and you will provide the logistics for any Boat dive. After a while your skill to match wet suits and divers will compete equally with London’s famed Savile Road Tailors!
Your role is to assist the Open Water SCUBA Instructor. So you will prepare in advance all the required training materials (ropes, buoys, lifting devices anything he needs). After the dive you will coordinate the care of equipment in an efficient manner in order minimize transient time between dives. With your help the Instructor will have the appropriate time to conduct extensive briefing and debriefing. After all, your relationship with him has now evolved from Instructor to that of a Mentor. Personally for me, this evolution was one of the most beautiful elements of this course. Especially the fact that from the first day of the course at Diveness I was treated as a colleague!
As a candidate Divemaster you will spend many hours in the classroom and study in depth all aspects of dive theory. But this will be done in an interactive and enjoyable way.
Your classroom will be the open sea environment. Mad about scuba what else!
Training syllabus follows the “Crawl-Walk-Run” philosophy so everything will come naturally and with the proper pace of assimilation.
What will be an unprecedented experience for you is the relationship you will gain with other divers during their training. Believe it or not, they seek your advise and help and also they confide to you their worries about the next dive. At this point, your become a role model of diving behavior and culture!
In addition to theoretical preparation, also physical preparation is required! There are swimming tests and underwater skills that have performance criteria. Face them as a challenge! Through training you can extend you comfort zone! Remember, who dares wins!
Prepare your self to lift weights, tanks and a lot of diving gear but in the end of the day you will get a lot of energy from the smiling faces of the people you dived together.
As a PADI professional I can Open hearts and minds to the hidden beauty of nature’s creation and our obligation to protect it.
Foster self-esteem in another person. Teach the value of character and integrity.
Transform another human being and change a life for the better and forever.
I did not remain a Divemaster and I followed the Instructor Development course to became an Open Water Scuba Instructor. But that’s another story I’ll tell you later …… Be best, be PADI!
To be continued!!!!!
