Two unique dives, two completely different underwater landscapes, and one unforgettable diving experience.

On Sunday, August 9, we board our DELUXE dive boat Proteus III and set course for two of the most beautiful dive sites in Attica: Pontikonisi (Camel Island) and the well-known Pothitos Island.

Crystal-clear waters, abundant marine life, colourful walls, impressive rock formations, and two dives that will make you feel like you’re on a Greek island holiday—while remaining just a short distance from Athens.

We will meet directly on board Proteus III at the port of Palaia Fokaia, NOT at the DIVENESS Dive Center, allowing us to depart immediately and head straight to our first dive site without unnecessary delays.

Dive No. 1 – Pontikonisi (Camel Island)

Pontikonisi, also known as Apollon or Camel Island (named after the distinctive double hump formed by its two connected hills), belongs to the Municipality of Vari–Voula–Vouliagmeni and is one of the most beautiful dive sites in Eastern Attica.

Its underwater landscape features a gently sloping rocky seabed reaching depths of approximately 25 metres, while the eastern side of the island offers a spectacular colourful wall with massive boulders covered in marine life.

The site is well known for its excellent visibility, making every dive both relaxing and visually stunning.

Dive No. 2 – Pothitos Island

Only a short boat ride away lies our second destination, Pothitos Island, one of the favourite dive sites among DIVENESS divers.

Here we explore an underwater landscape full of life, featuring impressive boulders, colourful walls covered with marine vegetation, swim-throughs, cracks, small caverns and arches decorated with sponges and red algae.

The site is also home to abundant marine life, including:

• Sea Bream
• Moray Eels
• Large Groupers
• Greater Amberjack
• European Lobsters
• Brown Meagre
• and many other fascinating Mediterranean species.

Dive Information

• Suitable for all certified diver levels.
• Maximum bottom time per dive: 60 minutes
• Maximum depth for Open Water Divers: 18 metres
• Maximum depth for Advanced Open Water Divers: 30 metres
• Maximum depth for Deep Divers: 40 metres

The Dive Boat

Transportation is provided by our DELUXE dive boat Proteus III, a purpose-built diving vessel offering a level of comfort comparable to premium dive operations around the world.

On board you will find:

• Dedicated diver seating
• Tank racks
• Giant Stride dive platform
• Freshwater outdoor shower
• Marine toilet
• Galley
• Full-length sunshade (approximately one-third fully enclosed)
• Outdoor sound system
• Comfortable seating areas to relax between dives.

Participation

• Minimum participants: 10 divers
• Maximum participants: 12 divers

Cancellation Policy

DIVENESS reserves the right to change the date, time or dive sites, or to cancel the trip if weather or sea conditions make the excursion unsafe.

Refunds are issued only if the trip is cancelled by DIVENESS.

**** NEW – PADI Wreck Diver Course ****

Whether they are sunk as artificial reefs for divers or as the result of an accident, wrecks are fascinating windows into the past.

Ships, airplanes, and even cars are exciting to explore and are usually teeming with marine life after their sinking. Every wreck dive offers an opportunity for discovery, unlocking a mystery that others have missed.

About the course:
The PADI Wreck Diver Specialty is popular because it offers exciting adventures while also teaching you responsible wreck diving practices.

What you will learn:

1. How to research a wreck
2. How to use diving reels/guide lines
3. How to avoid common problems

Certification requirements – Prerequisites:

1. PADI Adventure Diver (or qualifying certification)
2. 15 years old and above
3. Good physical health

School schedule:
Web Class: 2–4 hours
Full course duration: 3 days (dives must be completed over at least two days – Saturday and Sunday)

How to become a Wreck Diver:
Every wreck is different. During the PADI® Wreck Diver course, you will learn how to explore various types of wrecks by investigating their layout, history, and hazards, and you will practice specialized wreck diving skills.

During four dives with your instructor, you will research and map a wreck, practice special finning techniques, and may use penetration lines.
Total time commitment: 2–3 days (dives must be completed over at least two days).

🩵😮‼️ DIVENESS has chosen the BIGGEST and BEST wreck in Greek waters to make this already thrilling PADI specialty even more valuable — and we have invited a renowned wreck expert and explorer to be with us throughout the entire course, sharing his additional knowledge on the subject!

✅ The EUROBULKER X & Antonis Grafas!!

The Wreck:
– Starts 5m above the sea surface and reaches down to -36m.
– The ship is approximately 200m long. It rests upright on the seabed, as if still sailing. Some cargo remains — cement in a lunar landscape texture — along with craters and ridges in the ship’s center, and a massive fracture caused by improper loading.
– Two enormous, easily accessible cranes and a giant propeller. Mussels and oysters cover most of the ship. Sea bream, seabass, and many small fish have made it their home.

Ship history:
The vessel was built in 1974 at the Spanish shipyards Astilleros Espanoles in Seville. It had a Sulzer 11,000 HP engine and a gross tonnage of 19,996. It could carry 35,264 tons and was about 200m long.

It belonged to Greek shipowner Stavros Ilias. From 1994 to 1998 it was owned by Medway and named Matumba, a name it also held between 1992–1994 under shipowner Mouskas.

In 1998, the last owner renamed it Eurobulker X. The crew was foreign, except for Greek second officer Nikolaos Pantazis. In September 2002, while anchored at Lefkandi, Evia, loading cement for Alexandria, Egypt, strong winds of force 8–9 Beaufort hit the area.

The ship was struck by heavy waves and broke in two. Tons of fuel oil, mazut, and cement spilled into the surrounding areas of the South Evian Gulf. Cleanup operations began immediately by the Ministry of Merchant Shipping and the Port Authority of Chalkida. Today, the wreck is a haven for marine life and a hotspot for diving activity.

Our program schedule:

Saturday 08/08/26 – 9:00 am – Meeting point in Dilesi, just 45 minutes from Athens.

First dive: Propeller at -30m, then ascend to the deck for a tour around the accommodation area, heading toward the bridge where the ceiling is at 6m. Safety stop there before surfacing.

Return to the boat and then to shore for a 120’ surface interval.

Second dive: Student navigation of the wreck, mapping, and penetration assessment. Starting above the fracture at 25m, heading toward the bow to see the mooring ball and two anchors, then up to the bow deck to view the windlasses. Ascend to 8–9m at crane height, move toward the stern, and finish with a safety stop at 6m at the school’s mooring point by the second crane.

Sunday 09/08/26 – 9:00 am – Second diving day (dives 3 & 4 of the specialty).

Dive 3: Use of a reel, simulated penetration, and navigation practice.
Dive 4: Wreck navigation, reel use, and real penetration exercise based on prior training.

Includes:
– 4 dives
– Dive supervision by two instructors AND a wreck researcher
– Full equipment set (tank, weights, BCD, regulator, mask, fins, wetsuit, boots)
– DAN diver insurance
